Acupuncture

Acupuncture stimulates specific points on the body which lie on energetic pathways, called meridians or channels. These channels run from your extremities and connect with your organs internally. It is through these channels that we can influence the muscles and joints over which they run (helping you with pain, tension and inflammation), as well as stimulate and regulate the function of the organs to which they connect (helping you with internal, or physiological, complaints). Accordingly, acupuncture is used as an effective treatment for illness, injury, pain and tension — see Things We Treat.

Acupuncture's ability to optimise the body's physiological efficiency allows it to be used as preventive medicine. It keeps your body supple, helping prevent injury. It regulates the way that organs function with one another, so that your system is working efficiently and is able to ward off infections, adjust to changes in its environment and buffer the disruptive effects of stress. In this way acupuncture increases your resilience to stress, illness and injury and leaves you with a feeling of vitality and mental clarity.

Herbal medicine

Herbal medicine uses natural substances which have medicinal qualities to counter illness and to optimise your health and longevity. These substances can be used either individually or in combination with other herbal medicines in traditional and well-known formulas. These formulas are selected to match the pattern of dysfunction in your body — so although you and a friend may suffer from the same complaint, you both may be prescribed very different formulas, as the overall conditions of your bodies may be very different. As your condition changes and improves with treatment, your herbal formula is also adjusted and modified until the desired health outcome is achieved.

In addition to acupuncture and herbal medicine, moxibustion, cupping, dietary and lifestyle advice are incorporated in your consultation as needed.
